Each row uses the same calculation as the project’s own Finance tab. Each currency gets its own block of figures.

Many agencies learn that a project lost money only after the last invoice goes out. Taskip puts revenue, labor and expenses side by side on each project, using the time tracking and invoicing you already do, so a thin margin is visible before the next project is quoted.
What is Taskip Project Profitability?
Taskip Project Profitability shows an agency what each project earns, costs and leaves behind. A Finance tab on every project works out revenue, labor, expenses, profit and margin from the time, invoices and expenses already recorded in Taskip, and an Expense tracker and a Profit tracker compare projects across the workspace.
| Without Taskip | With Taskip Project Profitability | |
|---|---|---|
| Profit per project | A spreadsheet that mixes invoices, timesheets and receipts and is rebuilt after the project ends | A Finance tab on each project with revenue, labor, expenses, profit and margin |
| Fixed price work | Hours multiplied by a rate, even when the client agreed a fixed fee | Revenue is what has been invoiced, with the planned contract value shown beside it |
| Expenses | Receipts in inboxes and subcontractor bills that never reach the project | Expenses recorded on the project by category, with the receipt attached |
| Missing cost rates | Time with no cost rate quietly counts as free | Left out of labor and shown as coverage, so you can see what is not costed yet |
| What clients see | Either nothing, or a risk of showing them your margins | Revenue side only, when the project allows it. Cost, labor and profit are never sent to the client |
Each project has a Finance tab for the people allowed to see it. It shows whether the project makes money and how much of the budget is used.

Revenue is worked out from the project’s billing type, so a fixed price project is not judged by hours times rate.
Record an expense on the project it belongs to. The Expense tracker lists them all in one place.

Profit is only useful if you can see what it leaves out, so Taskip shows the edges instead of hiding them.
Sharing finances with a client is off by default and is set one project at a time under Settings, Access & client portal.

Reporting
Revenue, projects & team in one view
Profit is recognised revenue minus total cost, and margin is profit divided by revenue. Total cost is labor (tracked time that is no longer a draft and was not rejected, multiplied by the cost rate on each entry) plus the expenses recorded on the project. It is gross profit, so overheads are not included, and margin shows a dash when revenue is zero.
No. For fixed price and retainer projects, revenue is the amount invoiced on the project, not hours times rate, and draft, void, canceled and failed invoices are ignored. The planned contract value, the invoiced amount and the collected amount are shown beside revenue and never added together. The hours still count as labor cost, so you see what the work cost against what you billed.
Taskip never converts money. Each project reports in its own currency, and an invoice, expense or time entry in a different currency is left out of that project’s figures, with a note saying how many rows were left out. The Expense tracker and the Profit tracker show a separate block of figures for each currency and never add them together.
It is left out of labor instead of being counted as free, so profit can look higher than it really is until the gap is closed. The Finance tab shows what percentage of the project’s time was costed. To fix it, set a cost rate for the person, the project, its billing profile or the workspace.
No. A client sees the revenue side only, and only when the project allows it. Show finances to client is off by default and is set per project. When it is on, the client sees Agreed, Invoiced, Paid and Still to pay on the project Overview. Cost, labor, time spent and profit are never shown to the client and never sent to their browser.
Administrators and Managers can open the Finance tab, the Expense tracker and the Profit tracker by default. Members and custom roles can only if an administrator grants them the Project Finance and Project Expenses permissions, and having the Projects permission alone does not open these pages. Clients never see the trackers. To control what happens when a project reaches its hours or money budget, see Budget Approval.
